Yes, pay for a CFI starts at $17 and ends at about $21 depending on if you are certified as Private, Instrument, etc. They are not exactly 'easy' on the CFI's either but if you are a good instructor and don't get a student that wants to flunk out to go back to China--then you are doing good.
I learned quickly that having an "in" knowing someone there gets you a job easily--knowing no one there? NOT so easy. But good luck--hope this helps answer your questions, and if you want to pick my brain more go right ahead-they just let me go recently- and it is ripe for the picking!

hey HTOTHEMAC, I am interested in Iasco. please shoot me an email at [email protected] if you could give me any info/tips I would appreciate it! (can't PM)

Anyone have current info or hiring gouge on iasco redding? I have an interview there and I'm frantically trying to "brush up" since I haven't instructed in a year:eek: I understand they are under new ownership as well

Hey Bons, I currently instruct at IASCO. I've been here for just about all of 2012. I can help make sure you get through the interview...it's a long nasty one and there are a few simple things the interviewer looks for. If you know it's really easy. There's a lot to tell you. Some of it is PM only type stuff. I joined to respond to this thread to try to help you out. I don't think I have PM priveleges yet.

This may not be where you want to instruct to help your career and build hours. IASCO is very much a mission-oriented school. That mission is training ab-initio students for Chinese airlines. It is a place where people who want to be CFIs for a career can do very well. They don't care in the slightest about your career progression, and they will tell you some things that aren't true leading you to believe they do help instructors. They will actually work against your progession at points for many reasons.

Some people really do like IASCO, I still consider coming here to try to become a professional pilot a mistake.

Can you post an email address that I can send to? I'd like to send you some more in depth information, including the interview gouge and what it's like. I'd like to know what your goals are.

Well, I tried to get ahold of you in time. You've probably had your interview with Mary already. Let us know how it went.

Ha I remember teaching Mary and Jason how to start the engine during my interview.

How long did you work at IASCO?

2010-2011. Do they still offer salary?

Hell no. They don't even offer much flight hours anymore.

For What they do offer is a lot of lies about being able to fly 100 hours a month, turbine time and high pay. That, and you've gotta jump through a lot of hoops getting standardized. They've made it easier on people this year because they were running out of instructors, but as you know they like to hire double what they need and fire around half.

Ouch I left there due to medical issues due to the fact I wasn't flying that much. They gave me four students and it wasn't enough to live. Then they came up with the salary idea but you needed 1k hours. I was at 800. So I went home got my masters degree and then after that I moved to San Diego where I am able to fly more often with 8 students.
