Default What flight school do you recommend?

I am looking for a good flight school like an academy which I will spend 2 years that has housing, uniforms...etc, maybe in Florida or in California. I was planning on going to Delta Connection Academy but not after they sold it. I was thinking Phoniex East Aviation, Pan Am International Flight Academy.

Falcon Aviation Academy in Newnan, GA. Mostly a Diamond aircraft fleet. DA20 DA40 and DA42s. They have satellite schools all around the ATL area. Pretty decent and helpful instructors. Like most bigger schools though a lot of foreign students in the grinder. Falconaviationacademy.com They do have housing available at extra cost. DEFINITELY more affordable versus ATP, DCA and other shake and bake places.

U.S. military. Best flight schools anywhere.

^Can't beat that training. Try to find a place that doesn't make you wear uniforms. Seriously.

I would place more priority on the quality of training as opposed to looking for a school that makes you wear UNIFORMS! Is that really important to you??

No kidding. I never really understood what these schools were trying to accomplish by that other than to create an image which allows them to charge more money for nothing.

If you want to wear a uniform for your own reasons...enlist in the marine corps for three years. You'll get a uniform which means something and everyone will know you earned it.

Pilot uniforms don't mean much at all...especially for student pilots.

Now that's not true at all. They mean a great deal. Every time I see a student pilot in a uniform with epaulets I think - "Now there goes a complete dork who doesn't know enough to know that: 1) he's getting ripped off by a flight school, and paying for a silly uniform to boot, and 2) that they look like a dork flying a trainer wearing a uniform."

If I didn't get paid to wear the monkey suit at work and it wasn't required by said employer I'd show up in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts.

you already purchased your uniform without making a decision on flight a school yet?

Default My 2 cents

Spent $20,000 back in 1989 dollars to go to one of the best schools around, Flight Safety. Spent another 10K after that for commercial single add on, CFI and instrument recurrency over the years. Worked in aviation for years and got nowhere because my daddy did not work for the airlines. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn't. My father was a chef instructor at the Culinary Institute of America for 24 years, If I had decided to be a chef like he was I could have had a job anywhere in the world - but I wasn't interested in doing that. Unless you know someone on the inside I wouldn't bother. The reality is that most people who set out to be a big airline captain never make it. Not trying to be negative, just fact. I would like to save someone from wasting the time and money that I did. Those schools that you are describing are "selling you dreams" that you will probably never see. Beware. Some of those schools cost upwards of $60,000 for a slim to none CHANCE at making $18,000 a year to start. Do the math. If you must get your ratings just go to a reputable school at a fair price.
