Online Degree While Working - Feedback Please
I am going to attempt about 30 credits in the Embry Riddle Online program. My question is
- Should I attempt 12 credits at a time which will take about 9 months?
- Could I Do 16 credits at a time and finish in 6 months?
I am a current 121 line captian and I am home roughly 13 days per month.
For those of you who have done ERAU's online professional aeronautics B/S program, I would like to see what you thought about the difficulty and time required.
I would really like to get it done as fast as possible to move on with my career.

If you're near a military base look into the Riddle satellite campus program. When I did it, semesters were 10 weeks long. I usually took 6-9 credits. You can finish in 6 or so months without killing yourself or your GPA.

I'm taking my second-to-last class in Riddle's online BSPA program. Your ideal courseload would really depend on how much free time you have. Do you have a family? Do you commute? Personally, I took six credits per term until my son was born, now I'm taking three. I'm a junior RJ FO, so I have little control over my schedule, but long overnights in boring places or maybe naps/standups/CDOs (if you're single) seem to provide a decent amount of time to catch up with school work. Most classes don't require too much of a time commitment -- as long as you don't have to write a research paper. Staggering classes may be a good option for you, since most of the work is concentrated toward the end of class -- I wouldn't want to study for four finals or write four term papers at the same time. If you need more credits than the 30 required for residency, you'll probably want to take Cleps/Dantes. An hour or two of studying for a few days should be enough to pass most tests. PM if you want any details.

I did my B.S. in Professional Aeronautics at Orlando's Extended Campus while working as a CFI and took 2 classes per semester. While working on my online Master of Aeronautical Science degree, I took one class per semester since I had a desk job and a CFI job.
If you want to finish your degree fast, start off with as many class as you can handle depending on your lifestyle, prior commitments and free time. If you think you can't finish the course work, drop them before the add/drop date. You don't want to withdraw and have it show up as a "F" on your transcript to pull your GPA down.
Speaking of GPA - don't ruin it in an attempt to finish your coursework quickly. If you can get a 2.9 GPA and finish in 6 months vs. getting a 3.5 GPA and finish in 12 months, go with the route that will allow you to maintain a higher GPA.
P.s. Take all the Aviation Safety classes, as a pilot you'll know 60% of the material covered.
