I bought a new set of Zulus using the trade up deal a couple of years ago. $550. I am very happy with them. Why people spend a grand for Bose is beyond me. If you use the search window on the upper left, this topic comes up about once a month on APC. I voted for Lightspeeds on the last 15 threads.

Clarity Aloft(I have the Pro edition, not sure it matters), although I use it more as an X-C headset because putting the ear-pieces in all the time on short flights would really gunk them up. My DC 13.4's are my daily test-flight head-set for short flights.

I wear a lot of Bose also as most of our TBM owners have them in their planes, but I prefer my CA headset, it's just as quiet, it's comfortable, MP3 input(although bose finally fixed that with the A20), and for those that care about hair, it doesn't give you that nice greased and flattened look when it's hot out!

I have worn the zulu's once or twice, but it was so long ago I don't have a good opinion about them. I'm just anti-battery, one more thing to carry around and misplace.

Yep, saw the ad posted on the bulletin board at the airport, called the guy up, and picked up the headsets the next day. I figure I could sell one of them and break even! I only wish I could afford to buy the Cessna 210 the guy was also selling! :)

Look at the bulletin boards at the airport! You never know when there is a good deal or just someone who isn't internet savvy is going to post there.

I love my DC 13.4, after 2 years it has been a great companion. Hmm...perhaps after the instrument rating I should reward myself (or make my parents buy me) a Zulu. Sounds good to me! To the OP, I think the Zulu (or the Bose) are great headsets. But, there is no need to spend a lot of $ if you are a primary student. Get a decent (like a DC) one for now and upgrade later. Just my .2

Sprung for the Zulu a while back. Forgot to tell the wife I had left Cinncinati for Akron, no problem, called over Columbus for a pick up. Flew to Houston the other day, boy that Ipod worked good. Was at Oskosh a few weeks ago with a buddy who loves (loved) Bose. They wanted close to $1100 for the same features as Zulu. No thanks.

I flew an 8 hour roundtrip flight once with the 10-13.4's on. Towards the end I started noticing the clamping and pain around the ears. It had me thinking of getting one of those Oregon Aero upgrade kits.

I havent tried the Bose's A20s but I love my Zulus

Secondarily, maybe you should try one of these new headsets (with the technological advances) and maybe you will be "beaucoup" thrilled with the differences and will be willing to invest in one of them. ...or maybe not. Perhaps you experience with the Sigtronics is part of you comfort in the cockpit and we would not want to deviatefrom that.

I'm indeed in this flying business for the long run (GOD willing) and the feedback on the Zulu sounds quite appealing. Light, ANR, confortable, etc, plus others already have it and they love it. I'm about 79% decided upon the zulu.......lol. Thank you all for all of your inputs(Pearl, Toga). Please feel free to add anything if the urge compels you too. Thank you twice.

No problem. I've tried all the fancy headsets. My father has Bose installed in his Mooney. I still would never buy a headset that costs over $200 new. They are not that important. You don't even need them to fly a plane. Sure, hearing loss is an issue over time, but cheap headsets and/or earplugs are just as good. As a flight instructor, I see too many people purchase crap they don't need. Who needs a $150 Sporty's flight bag, when Walmart sells the same thing for less than $10? No one needs ANR. It's a luxury. I don't even like ANR. I want to hear the plane and engine talk to me. :)

I see you fly mostly big iron and can understand the disdain and cost of ANR. With the motor <2 ft in front, you definitely want ANR, and you can still tell if the motor hiccups.

Don't forget about the Clarity aloft! Chose it after trying the bose and zulu. Granted they are both GREAT headsets. But if you like wearing sunglasses, or a hat, or don't like all the weight on your head, check out the Clarity Aloft! I'm in production test and even in a hawker 900xp with no interior or insulation the CA is still super quiet.
