FWIW... I graduated from UND in May 2000. Hired into the right seat of a CRJ in December 2000. Hired into the left seat of a Citation in August 2005 after I was furloughed from the airlines. Now I'm flying a Challenger for a fortune 50 corporation...

I'd go back and do it all over again if I had the choice, but I also know classmates who are no longer flying at all and have moved on to other careers. Any way you choose to go you can get to an aviation job. However, once your done with training, the path you chose may dictate how long it takes to get your first job. A 4 year aviation degree (from any 4-year university/college program) may mean the difference between 1500 hours total time to get hired with the airlines and something a lot less depending on how the final FAA ruling on pilot experience works out.

I think im going to go To Broward College in florida and take there avaition degree.Everyone says when an airline hires you they look at the resume and see a university or EMBRY RIDDLE and they go, "oh hes trained good" , i heard that embry riddle Grauates have a better chance of getting in the airlines because airlines like ERAU grads.

I've never been on a hiring panel, but I've flown with guys who have, and what I've been told is they just really don't care. There may have been a little truth to that a couple of years ago when people were getting hired straight out of school into RJs, but now that 1500 hours is going to be required, I think there will be much more interest in what you've done to reach that time than where you went to college.

The answer is so obvious it's stupid. There are two tracks -

1. get your ratings on the outside. Figure out what colleges you like, compare the girl to boy ratio, and pick the school that has the highest female to male ratio.

2. get your ratings at a school that has an aviation program. Again, figure out which one has the best female to male ratio and apply.

Where you get your ratings, or where you got your degree, ultimately doesn't matter.

If you're going to pay out of state tuition, go to Arizona State! I did not learn about his gem until it was too late. Phoenix is an awesome town and you're five hours from anywhere (Vegas, San Diego, Flagstaff, etc...). Enjoy 24/7 awesome weather, great partying and more hot girls than you can ever imagine! Chicks don't put on their winter coats and go into hiding during the winter...and you don't need sunglasses to look at them in the spring. One walk down Mill ave., at night, and you won't look back. Shorts, sandals and Landshark all year round!

Get a degree is business or some other degree that may interest you. Look into nursing, i'm sure the ratio would be well in your favor. Go to a local airport and learn to fly at a Part 61 school and save $$$$$. Part 141 is way over rated! (I'm a 141 grad).

Or go to a sausage infested school full of dudes fighting over the 1 semi decent chick, trying to wow her with how awesome he is on flight team... Probably a chick you wouldn't even notice at ASU!

Look i'm not going to be one of those guys that tries to talk you out of aviation. I love it and I have many buds who love it too. I also have friends who have moved on to other things because they can't stand being gone, low pay, $hitty work rules. So I will say, that if I had to to do all over again, I would get another degree, while flying outside of school.

Enjoy college for what it is, you have the rest of your life to worry about working. I would kill to be in your shoes and do college over again. I love my life now, but college was a blast!

Fly at an FBO, get a part time job (but only if you need to), go to Arizona State (which has more 6's than UND & ERAU have 9+ combined).

It's what I would've done if someone would've told me about it... instead I went to Riddle.

Oh and don't borrow a single penny if you can help it.

I like how rather than reading previous threads, everyone thinks their case is special... But it's not...

THINK ABOUT YOURSELF.
1) Are you sociable?
2) Do you have hobbies outside of aviation?
3) Do you want a real college experience?
4) Do you like girls?

If you answered yes to any of these you probably won't do well at an all aviation college: Embry Riddle, UND, etc.

Quit wasting your time on these forums asking everyone thinking your someone special, seriously, look at the above questions I have asked and if you are one of these people, look elsewhere.

This is what you should do. Apply to colleges you are interested in regardless of aviation. When you look at them look to see if they have local airports with flight programs. That's it!

And if you don't believe me, I am a college student that went through this exact process and ended up transferring schools because I enjoy a social life.

Take it from someone who was completely fooled by the "harvard of aviation" propaganda and ignorant (should have listened to mom and applied elsewhere).

I went there for a semester....left and now I'm at a comm. college getting my associates (and afrotc in the fall)

But guess what.... I'm 24,000 in debt because of ONE semester
and oh yea....my only transferable class was english :)

unless you do AE, which you could still do somewhere else for a lot cheaper, don't go to that school

It is a complete rip off....right from it's advertisements, the school just tries to lure in students who are dumb enough to pay.

seriously,why would you pay 150-200k for a job which pays 1/10 of that the first year??
