Hello Eric,

I'm afraid I can't much help you with identifying possible flight schools near Long Beach. I do however have a suggestion. You stated you are a police officer, and from my understanding, many police departments in larger metropolitan areas are looking for pilots to fly their helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft. They run into some problems hiring pilots who are already out there because most of these agencies want to hire a pilot who is already a policeman, rather than a pilot who doesn't know anything about law enforcement. You may be in a unique position to apply for some of those job openings as you continue your training and gain more experience. Just something to consider. Good luck to you!

Do you already have the required papers for training in the USA? Of course, after 11Sept01, the USA wants to make sure that you are not a terrorist.

Not sure if you need a student visa, or not.

Aliso Viejo is in south Orange County (John Wayne airport). Long Beach certainly has schools, but that would be a long drive, and Carlsbad / Oceanside in San Diego County would also have schools, however this may be an easier drive.

John Wayne Airport, Airport Way, Santa Ana, CA is 15 miles away via the toll road. Very easy drive.

2198 Palomar Airport Rd, San Diego, CA 92008 (Carlsbad Airport) is 46 miles with relatively light traffic. Oceanside airport is slightly closer, and does NOT have an ATC tower, if that is important to you.

Long Beach Airport, 4100 East Donald Douglas Drive, Long Beach, CA 90808 is 36 miles of some of the worst traffic in the world.

Certainly folks will have opinions on part 141, but I don't. If you like a structured learning environment, then this is a good idea. Otherwise, there are lots of good options.
