I'm getting mine in a Luscombe for the fun of it. It's been a little of a challenge but I haven't had any problems. You just have to keep the nose straight and stay on the pedals, I had myself pretty psyched out about it. Then again, I've heard that the Luscombe is pretty tame by comparison to others. Still a blast to fly something that doesn't have an electrical system and has to be hand-propped when you're bombing around in G-1000 equipped aircraft pushing buttons.

If you want to know what its like to fly a tailwheel aircraft...

Go to the grocery store, and spend some time pushing a shopping cart around backwards. That should give you some appreciation for how on top of the rudder you need to be in tailwheel aircraft.

Best endorsement I ever recieved. I originally got it because my father was working on his sport pilot liscense in a piper cub back in NH (im in SoCal) and I wanted to be able to go home and rent the plane to go flying with him before he finished. I am over 60 hours now in T-wheel with cub, c-170,c-180, c-195, luscombe, and citabria time. I love every single minute of it

Want a beast of a tailwheel airplane? Fly a Supercub 180, Husky, Cessna 185, or for a real challenge, get the 195 with castering crosswind gear. As an instructor, it's easy to see those pilots that have tailwheel experience. It's one of the most valuable endorsements you can have as far as stick skills go, IMHO.

I can imagine. From all accounts the Luscombe isn't too tough to handle. I'm sure something with more power, and higher gear would probably be more challenging but for now I'll stick to the one I can handle.

I wouldnt mind getting some HUGE tailwheel time like the dc-3 or something unfortunately none of the FBO's around here rent. All of the tailwheel planes I have flown have been real docile. The 195 was more tricky mostly because of the forward visibility and the extra power but then again I was heavily monitored on the controls by the owner. I am working on my multi ratings now and i still love to go back to the citabria for the loops and rolls
