Superior judgement Mr. Jones! I salute you and my hat is off to you sir! It's all about putting those ADM stuff we read in textbooks for good use We all think stuff like this happens to "other people" and so we are more prone to making decisions could result in catastrophe. The 150 is a great plane, one of my favorites, but I would not fly it with one magneto, so yes you made the right choice. Thank you for sharing! What an experience, glad it turned out to be just fine.

Well done Sir. Often times, the harder, (Read safest), decision is the most inconvenient. The pilot that makes this decision, (The one that you made), is the one that I want up front when I'm in back...

Excellent job! There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but no old, bold pilots. You'll be an old pilot one day!

Default Mechanic

Your info suggests that you are a mechanic. Could you have fixed it and continued home?

Unfortunately, in that situation, no. Would have made for a better story though. No tools, manuals or logs. Not to mention haven't timed a magneto since A&P school.

I'll have to give an exception to this old adage. My boss is 86 years old, still flies actively. Plus I am sure he has larger cahonies(sp) than I do.

You made the correct decision.

Not a single pilot out there with their head on right would disagree. The go/no-go decision can sometimes be a real pain, but it's the good pilots that make the right decisions when needed in a situation like yours (not taking an unsafe aircraft airborne when you know you have to get somewhere).

Nothing is worth jeopardizing the safety of you and your precious cargo (passengers).

I tip my hat to you, sir!
