FOI failures

Not sure if this goes here or not but i have heard that a lot of people have been failing the Fundamentals of Instruction written exam. I was wondering if anybody knows if this will calm down any time soon as i plan to take the test in the next few months. Thanks for your help.

Why would anyone ever fail a knowledge test? With all the knowledge test preps out there providing you with all the Q&A before you take the test, failing should be unheard of.

Because the FAA changed the test questions and the gouge sites hadn't caught up yet.

Thanks for the link USMC. Does this mean they have stopped this and there are not as many failures?

I took the FOI test in November and got a 78%. The question bank had changed prior to I took the test. Here is what I did and I would suggest you do to prepare for the test.

1. Read the Aviation Instructor's Handbook and highlight everything you think is important. Re-read it and highlight more. Re-read it :)
2. Get a copy of either ASA or Gleim written test prep for the FOI and keep taking practice tests. Although the question bank is different, it helped me nevertheless.
3. Re-read the Aviation Instructor's Handbook.
4. Take a few tests on exams4pilots.org.

Good luck!!

I took it a couple months ago and passed it. Got 80%. I studied the gleim guide and the Dauntless prep on the iPad. most of the stuff I studied was on topic but the way the FAA words some of the questions is where they got me.

I second what was said about the instructor handbook though.

Edit: post #1 woot

www.sheppardair.com - best out there!

Website looks really old but the database is continually updated. Passed my FOI, CFI-A, and CFI-I all with over a 90% back in August. Studied about 4 days for each. I think the package price is something like $100. Well worth it. Good luck!

I took that test a few years ago and got 98 on it, which says more about how easy it was than how smart I am. I figured the one I missed was the experimental question. :) They probably should have made it harder as they did, it was kind of a joke before. You could just memorize the study guide.
