Flying with a woman.
#12
I always enjoyed it when I got paired up with a women. The two that I've flown with where a lot of fun to be around. Of coarse I get along with just about anybody, so that probably helps too. BTW you do realize what your screen name means don't you? If you act like a MilehighMama, that may set a bit of a different tone. At which point you'd probably look alot more like a nice piece of meat than a profesional and co-worker. Probably ought to keep that shirt buttoned up, at least on my end of aviation there's not alot of women, so it doesn't take much to start catching eye's.

I don't act like a MileHigh'er, but I also don't mind catching eyes....just kidding. I keep it professional at all times.

I have a late morning flight tomorrow that will put me on the east coast after a stop in the west. I will have the FO removed from the trip and will be waiting for your arival. I will get the walkaround and will even have the cockpit set up. Splash a little Liz Taylor Passions on and something comfortable for our eight hour day and we will go flying. Looks like we may even get some bad weather on the east coast tomorrow. That will be your leg! I'll buy the first round too!

I'll bring the food. No crew meals for us.

I have no problems, in fact most are very interesting and all have those "hey there little lady" stories of how they had to deal with anti female pilots. Now, I think the problem might be that some feel awkward spending so much time with another female so closely because many have wives or girlfriends. Some just can't handle it and they try to stick to flying. Some are just old-school and barely approve women motorists let alone women aviators. It could also depend on the type of flying, like cargo
Maybe some can correct me but I hear there are some real slamclickers that fly there. But anways, I think the key is to be open, if you think the other guy is nervous just be a catalyst with a joke or something, if they turn out to be one of those guys there's not much you can do. To add, if you have trouble breaking the ice, go to your local BN or Borders and buy those pocket books filled with jokes, those are priceless.

Just make sure that you have your $hit together and can pull your own weight in the cockpit. Call out an ahole when he needs to be called out and then also be ready and able to take comments and criticism (you can ALWAYS learn something from the guy in the other seat, and this applies to EVERYONE!).
Basically, just be one of the guys and you will be golden. It has been my experience that about half the women at my airline are cool, and the others have that big a$$ chip on their shoulders. Do you know how long and annoying of a day it can make to sit next to a woman who constantly is offeneded by everything in the industry? Feminists suck in the cockpit.
Even the crustiest old man can be broken down by a good-natured chick who knows her stuff and can dish it right back as she gets it without getting her feathers ruffled. It is like having big brothers.

I enjoy flying with female pilots because it is just plain fun! I have only done this as an instructor thus far, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I get along with female pilots a lot better than male pilots - don't ask me why?...but we just seem to click just a little bit better.
Whatever you decide to do, wherever you decide to go...good luck Mamma! Maybe we will fly together one day?
