CFI Training Aides
 

For all you seasoned CFI's out there what training aides do you find to be most beneficial now that you wish you would've had when you first started instructing?

Any specific areas/lessons or just in general?

Just in general. The area I am going to struggle in the most is aerodynamics.

UND has some decent stuff about aerodynamics on there website. I always show the stability one to students when I talk about different types of stability.

If you would like to dig deeper into Aerodynamics, I would highly recommend, "The Illustrated Guide to Aerodynamics." I think there is a free chapter around from google books, see if it interests you. It gave me a better understanding of Aerodynamics and made it easier for me to teach the basics.

I actually just ordered that book a couple of days ago... I'm hoping it will make teaching aerodynamics a little easier... other than weather, I think it is actually one of the more difficult subjects to teach well.

Do you know how that book compares to aerodynamics for naval aviators (think I got the title wrong)?

Unfortunately not.

Just remember, at the end of the day when explaining to the primary student, we need to keep it simple at first, then work from the known to the unknown. We need strong building blocks or else we will start finding cracks in the students knowledge. It is amazing how much of your learning transfers when working on your CFI, especially with the rote knowledge. You will feel so much better when you can finally understand and even correlate it.

Also! Please remember it is NOT an FAA publication, so back it up with the PHAK on your checkride. I wouldn't even consider having the book out during the ride.
