Question Input Greatly Appreciated

Howdy Y'all.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this thread, but I'm new here so go easy on me.

Basically I'm looking for a little guidance.

A few years ago I completed my training at ATP earning my MEII. Unfortunately, after training I went back to work with my old job as a network administrator due to the fact I could not afford to be an ATP instructor or any flight instructor.

Since then I have been working on my Aviation Sciences degree from UVSC, and only have 1 year left.

Also, I really messed up by not renewing my Instructor Licenses. I know, I know this was a BIG mistake!

I currently have 284TT 139ME 185XC and 195PIC.

I have not flown in over 2 years so I am far from proficient, this I know. But I have some money to get back in the air with an instructor and plan to do so very soon.

After I become comfortable in the air again I would like to find a job in aviation and quit the admin job. I have heard of low time pilot jobs such as fish spotting, pipeline patrol, entry level cargo, and traffic watch.

My goal is not to become an airline pilot. My goal is to be a pilot and stop being a network admin. If the airlines become an option for me in the future, that may be a path I take, but till then I would glady fly rubber dog poo from A to B as long as Im making some money for it.

I would like to know if y'all have any suggestions about the afore mentioned jobs (fish spotting, pipeline patrol, entry level cargo, and traffic watch) or any paths I should take to get me back into aviation.

I live in Houston, TX

Thanks in advance for your replies and professionalism, it is greatly appreciated.

Not renewing your CFI was not a huge mistake. It is no big deal to get it reinstated. Three hours in a twin should do it. Go to college full time, work part time part time as a CFII MEI. You should try to fly at a huge flight school with a charter department. Teach ATP and/or Instrument students only, if you can. You can also contract out some network admin work on the side; maybe keep your flight school's network going (or install one).

All things are possible but you need to immerse yourself in the field. "Make opportunity happen."

Mike 734 thanks for your reply and advice.

Would you (or anyone reading this) happen to know of any huge flight schools with charter ops in the Houston area?

Thanks again

Default Sell

Sell off everything you have of value in life. Pay down your loan if you have one. Buy a cheap Cessna 150. Fly it all winter till you have 600 hours. Quit your admin job and fly away in the 150 to find a banner towing job in Florida.

Spend the next two years as a struggling and poor working pilot. Return to your home town in disgust. Sell plane. Realize how good it is to have a regular pay check and regular hours. Get another admin job. Live happily ever after.

SkyHigh...

I see you have over 1700 posts. Your self employment obviously grants you plenty of idle time to offer lame and sarcastic remarks on this forum. Try the local comedy club, maybe that will get you some attention that you are so desperately seeking.

Default Joking Aside

All joking aside. It is still good advice.
