Handicap Aviators
Hello All,
Does anybody have any experience instructing handicap or wheelchair bound pilots?
The low wing Piper with the hand brake (no toe brakes) and the Blackwood Rudder Hand Control STC, seem to be the ideal aircraft for wheelchair aviators. Does anybody have any comments or advice on pre-flighting high wing aircraft such as a Cessna 172 or the 152? What is acceptable to an examiner during a pvt pilot practical test? Thanks for any info or thoughts.

Interesting topic. How would they "stick the tanks" in a high wing?
Quick google-fu returned some links - looks like LSA only.
This might be a good place to start: Able Flight
And another link.

There is a guy in Big Bear City, CA that, although his name escapes me at the moment, is quite well known for this, handicapped instruction, and has been doing it forever... He should not be too difficult to contact. Good Luck
Additional... His name is Mike Smith; call him at (909) 585-9663 I did not realize this, but I believe he is also the president of IWA (Int'l Wheelchair Aviators) I have heard nothing but good things about him. Good Luck
