Hi everyone!,

After a long time, I'll start flying again in January to get my FAA ratings. I hold a EASA CPL/IR with some 315h, so I do pretty much fulfill all the requirements, talking about hours. I of course need I'd say some 20-30h, to practice all the maneuvers, including a few new ones compared to EASA. Also some SIM for my IR, groundschool, etc...

I live in Las Vegas right now, but I don't like it here, at all. I checked the schools in the area, and I don't wanna train here honestly.

Since I don't know if I'm gonna get my CFI too, or if I'll try to get a part 135 job....I need to find a school, I guess part 61 is what I need obviously, but at the same time I'd like to find a place that would offer me the possibility of staying with them as a CFI, if lucky enough and if I deserve that position of course. I read that part 141 fly more normally, with those asian contracts, pilot mills I gues you could say.

So I'm writing here willing to get some advice from you guys. I can move anywhere, any state, Alaska included. I saw nice schools in Texas, some in California, some in Arizona....I don't know. A friend of mine instructs in Denver, and another friend tells me to train in Virginia, where he just moved to. So no idea.

School advice anyone?

I read a lot about Transpac, Aerosim, USAA in Denton, lot of bad stuff about Sierra Academy........it's just that I dont know where to go, too many schools out there and dont know which one is the best in my situation

Inclined plane

I instruct at TransPac in PHX. Starting salaried pay 28k (32k if you have MEI/ii as well). It's a 5 day work week, 10 hour days but time passes very fast. Mix of sims, oral briefs, and flights. PPL avg 60 hrs monthly. IR avg 80-100 some cases more. There can be bottlenecks due to students needing stage checks per 141 training reqs but they eventually clear up. Opportunities to become class manager with a 12k pay bump are fairly possible but usually mean reduced flying hours for you. Practice areas can be packed but all company Archers and Seminoles have TIS for traffic, and at least in one of the practice areas (Luke AFB SATR) you receive traffic advisories from Luke approach. Plenty of off airport landing areas and great scenery and good flying except can be miserable in the dead sweat of summer even with the onboard air conditioning in all company planes. Great mx department and very well maintained fleet on a progressive inspection cycle. Hope that helps.

I would say look for a school that does not take all your money up front, I was very comfortable being able to pay for any flight/ground time at the end of the session. I've heard of folks that make big payments up front and then the school goes bankrupt for whatever reason, you will likely not see that money back.

Other than that, look at any accident history and maintenance on their planes. Compare rates and try to do your training somewhere with nice weather where you can fly anytime you want.

If you're looking for small, family-oriented schools that won't steal all your money while actually paying attention to you and not throwing you through the grinder, take a look at Professional Air in Bend, OR or WNC Aviation in Asheville, NC.

I'd consider Phoenix area but only to get my licence. Working in Vegas during the summer has been miserable, but knowing Phoenix is even warmer during the summer makes me cry lol.

My Korean friend talked to me about Chandler Air in Chandler, AZ, and looks really good to. That kind of school is what I'm looking for.
