I took a tour of Liberty University and was pretty impressed with their Aeronautics program. Even Applied for the 2018 school year. I plan on attending after talking to a lot of advisors and mentors around me.

If this is my life, I might as well surround myself in my early years with other people who have the same passion to push me forward.

Call it "church camp" (even tho it's not even close) or whatever but their Aeronautics program seemed pretty damn serious to me. Their facilities did a good job of impressing me for a "church camp".

Sorry but I don't at all agree with the church camp thing. Pretty ignorant if you ask me.

My old roommate got out of the military and is going there... He's Christian, and even he isn't thrilled about Mando church 3x a week, as well as the curfew, fines for swearing and all other things. Lucky for him he's too old to live on campus, otherwise he'd have had more freedom his first year in the Navy when they forced him to live on a ship. It kind of is church camp, but that works for some people.

So why is he going to liberty? We'll frankly because Liberty is a means to an end... He's hoping the pluses of the program outweigh the negatives of the school. And he tried that real college thing once and ended up in the Navy.

Theres at least one book about life as a student at Liberty written by someone who didn't drink the koolaide. Recommend you read it to help get a balanced prospective on the school.

Call me weird but the whole "experience" that some people want isn't what other people want. Tbh, a 2AM curfew is not that bad for me. (finals weeks don't have curfews either) I am a little religious, yes. I will admit. I would gladly read the book if you provide a link to it.

I know several friends that go there and they are similar to me. They all come from upper-middle-class families, no drinking/partying, minimal swearing, much like me.

LU isn't for everyone, it just fit for me. I hear Pensacola Christian has an aviation program (if you can stand walking on separate sidewalks from the other sex). Lots of different schools out there, just don't screw yourself over. :-P

Kevin Roose, The Unlikely disciple: A sinner's semester at Americas Holiest University... https://www.amazon.com/Unlikely-Disc...likely+discipl

PCC is odd for sure... They have minders when their students are out conducting field day activities... The only other places I've seen that are with prisoners and field workers in North Korea.

I have disagree with most people on this post. Liberty University is a fantastic school. It is reasonably priced (low for a private school and a little higher than a state school) school and is receiving high praise from the industry. (FlyingMag, Delta having exclusively taken Liberty Interns this semester, having a multitude of hiring agreements, and a fnatastic safety record.. I could go on and on) Sure LU catches some flak for its beliefs but our students and CFI's have the highest integrity. Don't want to move to Liberty? No prob! Liberty has over 50 flight schools we are partnered with to give all the opportunity to have such a high level of aviation education while remaining close to home. Our chiefs and professors have come from all over in the industry and have connections that allow recruiters and pilots to talk to and interview our students on a weekly basis. Post is a little out of order but there is so much to compliment and talk about what LU has to offer and a little negativity.

Thinking it's weird that a school enforces a curfew and forces their students to go to church 3 times a week is prejudiced now? I know plenty of Christians that went to public universities and they ended up fine. I also know quite a few that went to religious schools and they are a lot more awkward socially to be around.

I really enjoyed this book, which I thought was fair, but painted a picture of the exact opposite of what I'd look for in college experience.

https://www.amazon.com/Unlikely-Disc.../dp/0446178438

It seems most students at liberty come from evangelical households and in that case Liberty wouldn't seem odd. However, if you're not on fire everyday and in every-way to fill you waking hours with praying and lifting him up, it may be a culture shock.
