Default CFI Traing Academy?

All,

I am looking for recommendations for a CFI school anywhere in the US. I am looking for a location with a good staff, cheap and clean accommodations, and successful results. Thanks a lot.

Take a look at American Flyers. I graduated from their 30 day CFI program a year ago. I got my CFI-CFII at the Addison location. Very good program and you will learn while you are there. If you do your part to prepare and study you will have no issues. Its a good program and I would recommend it to anyone.

The CFI academy at American Flyers is a joke. They say 30 days to complete the course and to when you get there they inform you that FSDO is a month behind so now is 60 days for your CFI.These guys are true flight school BOZOS.Also lots of bad equipment. My advise to you would be to stay close to your home and go check every FBO out there.Ask questions about their instructors. You'll be surprised at how many retired airline pilots instruct at FBO'S and they do it because they love flying and teaching not because they want to built time.

I attended and graduated from the CFI academy in Chicago (DPA) back in 2006. I passed my CFI ride on the first shot and felt very well prepared to do so. I didn't have one cancellation due to A/C and had no issues getting a slot with the FSDO. All the instructors I worked with were professional and wanted to see me succeed. Things may have changed in the decade since, but one data point to consider.

Strictly to the Exam/Checkride issue, and not defending American Flyers. It can be rough to get an Exam in a timely manner lately. It's largely due to two factors. One is all the ATP Exams for the folks whose knowledge tests are about to expire. The other is a minor shortage of FAA Designated examiners in some areas. This is due to the FAA having removed examining authority from some designees who, in the FAA's opinion, were not flying enough outside of those flights required during Exams. [The FAA wants to see their designees more in the loop, by having a regular flying job or conducting a fair amount of flight instruction.] Getting enough flying for FAA inspectors has also been an issue. Additionally, All Designees are not authorized to conduct all types of Exams/Checkrides. For example, not all can administer an ATP or CFI Exam.

In Colorado - Web site by The Flying School - www.theflyingschool.com

In the past it has been great. With the old owner around, Jack was his name. He has retired so I wonder how the relationship is with the FSDO and all that now.. First summer without him now. I'm doing my CFI from August 13th-27th. Crazy fast. We will see how this goes.

Sounds like another high profit organization. I don't know what your aspirations are as a pilot or how much exploitation you willing to suffer but check this out.Mesa started a cadet program with Sierra academy 7/14/2016.They pay for all the CFI training and at 1500 you start flying for them.I don't know for how long they will have a hold of your testicles after the "free" training and how many firstbornes you'll have to sign off as collateral but it may be something to consider before you spend any money.
