Century Air (CDW) vs. American Flyers (MMU)?
I'm trying to decide on a flight school to get my Instrument Rating. Has anyone had experience with both and can compare the two?
Century Air uses the 172SP models with KLN 94 and has 2 such aircraft available.
American Flyers has the 172R models with KLN 94 and has 2 such aircraft available.

I went to American Flyer in Morristown and although I got my cfi done at this location, there was no director on site for the longest time so it was very disorganized. I had to deal with whoever was in charge down in Florida and they would just blow you off over the phone because there is no person to person interaction, it was horrible and it was WAY TO EXPENSIVE. Needless to say I did not continue at this location. Anothrr reason to stay away is that they use nothing but new cfi's so you're paying way too much money for an inexperienced instructor, this results in longer training for you = even more money out of your pocket.
On the maintanance side, I had to cancel a good number of flights due to broken aircraft, so my checkride got rescheduled a few times because of this...resulting in (you guessed it) more momey to stay fresh in order to pass.
This is just my personal experince with AF at MMU.

What are you basing your statement on when you say they were new instructors? Were they all new instructors?

By the way, American Flyers uses an in-house learning guide that's more condensed than the regular Jeppesen curriculum which Century Air uses.
Also, Century Air has a library of videos from King Videos and Jeppesen to supplement their curriculum. American Flyers has an online library of videos, but I'm not sure how that compares to the former.

This was last year, I am sure they finally got someone, but still do you homework. If anything, you should request an experinced CFI to work with you directly as your primary CFI, it truly makes a big difference to go with someone experinced.

Stay away from American Flyers. It's a joke.Very expensive and bad equipment.Had 6 flights cancelled for broken aircraft. The worst part you fly when it's convenient for them.Tried to get my CFI and after 4 months I had 5 flights done.Had to go to another school after I wasted a lot of money for nothing.
