Default American Flyers CFI Renewal

Has anyone else used American Flyers for their CFI renewal? I just signed up and was curious as to whether or not you have to read the material or are the tests easy enough to get by without reading? Also, my CFI expires this month, if I finish the program on the 2/28, do I have to take it to the FSDO that day or what? Do we get a certificate or something when we finish? How does it all work? I know about moving the mouse and the timed lessons, but that is about all I know. Thanks!

Make sure you get the application in before it expires, which may mean going to the FSDO. Sometimes those ACR's that are with the FIRC's will not do it immediately and then you have a mess. They also charge extra for the service ($25).

Some of the questions are word for word straight from the material and the gleim books. The website counts how much time you've spent in each section, wiggle the mouse about every 10 minutes or the time won't accumulate. When you finish you may have to take the graduation certificate to a FSDO and get an authentication certificate to a notary.

Yes you'll probably have to read the material. I believe they take care of the FSDO for you. If you take the test by the 28th you shouldn't have an issue.

American Flyer's is time monitored if doing it online. (i.e you will need to spend 16 hours in front of a computer.)

Best for CFI renewal is GLIEM. Can finish it in a morning and print certificate to FSDO. Rubber stamped. Easy. If already Part 121 ask (your employeer or FSDO to extend without taking class).

American Flyers is cool because you only have to pay once. Every renewal thereafter is paid for.

Thanks for all of the input. Does anyone know the exact time you have to move the mouse before the time stops? I already paid for it and figured it was the best deal since it is for a lifetime. 16 hours is going to suck, especially before Wednesday! What is the deal with the extension if we are 121?

Thanks again!

The good thing about the online renewal is that you only have to pay once for unlimited renewels. I opted for the group course, and it was well worth it! Piece of cake. We had a retired eagle captain as an instructor, and hardley opened the book. Great group of guys in that class. Plus, you never know who you will meet.
