10 % ?
According to the Ppruners the success rate rate of EK wannabees is 10% for DEC and 30% for F/O. Is this true.Got any stats ?

My morale is flagging. Why did you have to go and post that?

I'm flying for Emirates and just flew with a guy who is pretty much in the loop of what is happening in the hiring process here. His guess was that about 60-70% of people interviewing are getting the job, although I don't know if his guess includes DEC candidates or not. Language skills seem to be a big issue at the moment.

I interviewed at Emirates about a year and a half ago and I don't think the process has changed much since then. To properly prepare I think "Ace the Technical Pilot Interview" is still the book to read. Yes- there are some errors in it but I think it is still the single best source of info. Another one that might help is a British publication called "Understanding Performance" by AJ Walters. This book was recommended to me by typhoonpilot and I found it helpful. The book does a decent job of describing performance issues common in British ATP testing but not covered at all in the FAA world. When I was invited for the EK interview I had been half heartedly reading 'Handling the Big Jets' for a Cathay interview that never came and I found the book excellent, but probably more in depth than required for the Emirates interview. I'd recommend it if you have the time, but if pressed the "Ace" book is pretty good for one stop shopping. I actually read most of "Ace" during my airline flight over to DXB and felt I did fairly well on the written exam. Good luck!

Ask them here or use the PM function. I know it doesn't work until you have 25 posts so you can register at another forum I visit that doesnt' have the restriction: forums.jetcareers.com Either that or just post a lot over the next week.

DEC Sim Ride ?

I got the call from Emirates for DEC . Interview will be in a couple of weeks. Good info on this forum . I have two questions :
1. Why do they need the Psychometry thing?
2. What is the Sim pattern for DEC ? Feedback on recent patterns , problems and other simulator details appreciated.

The Psychometrics is to see a variety of things, among them: 1) Can you fit into a multi-cultural work environment and 2) Can you be a decent Captain. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the process, but their results are pretty darn accurate as to your specific character traits. Just be honest and open and it generally goes well.

DEC sim is pretty similar to an F.O. sim with a little twist to make sure you can make command decisions and a fairly difficult point at which to have an engine failure. In my humble opinion, the sim isn't designed to see whether you are the ace-of-the-base so much as it is to see whether or not you have decent CRM and decision making skills to go along with decent flying skills. The best thing you can do is come with a plan as to how you are going to manage any emergency/abnormal situation.
