Default New ICAO rules?

I was on a bus the other day with a QF flight attendant and she told me that due to some ICAO rule pilots at QF would no longer be able to have their family travelling with them while they are working. My guess is that some lunatic thinks that there is a security risk if a terrorist holds a pilots family member hostage in the cabin. I can think of about a million reasons why this is a stupid and futile attempt by some pencil pusher as to make sure the 'authorities' work against crew instead of with them. . .again.

Any one know if there is any truth to this?

We are no longer alowed to have family travel with us on the Flightdeck. Up until about a year ago, family members were allowed to use the jumpseat on Staff travel. Now, only QF employees with an ASIC are allowed. Family members are allowed seats in the cabin, of course. Cheers, TDK

Yes, I knew that trnttdk, but this sounded like something more sinister. She was pretty adamant, but that doesn't really mean anything does it? Just sounded like another ridiculous way to make sure the lives of everybody who was not a terrorist were made even more difficult.

No, nothing sinister. I suspect she misheard someone having a whinge about the new procedure. Obviously, it has made travelling with family more difficult as you now have to sweat on seat availability. Previously they had a guaranteed one up the front if the cabin was full. The result is guys saying something along the lines of 'This new procedure is crap. I can't take the family with me on a trip anymore.' I would know what he was talking about, where as a hostie could easily think something along the lines of what you were told. I can say without a doubt there is no restriction on family passengering with operating crew up the front in QF. Cheers, TDK

Cool. I thought it sounded pretty out there, but out there is about where the transport safety administrations are half the time.
