Norwegian 2.0....

Several former Norwegian investors, including Bjorn Kjos, have announced Norse Atlantic Airways. Planned start up is fall of this year, flying 787s trans-Atlantic. Article is in Norwegian:

My Norwegian is a little rusty, but I am willing to bet some money they won't fly before end of this year like they are claiming.

It didn’t work the first time, why try the same model again?

Welcome to the airline industry.

Because even though it may be a money losing proposition overall, there are a few people who do personally make a large sum of money on things like this. Sort of like the CEO who gets a $50 million bonus when he runs a company into bankruptcy, then gets a huge signing bonus to be the CEO of yet another company. Same sort of thing. Even though Norwegian lost money with its long haul expansion, Bjorn Kjos and Bjorn Kise ended up benefiting personally, which is why they are willing to do it yet again.

Norwegians are known as the Arabs of Europe. So much oil money that they don't know what to do with it.

AllYourBaseAreB 03-22-2021 06:52 PM

Well they certainly didn’t want to bail out Norwegian

They were paying the pilots too much money last time. This time OSM Aviation (the company that supplied $100K 787 Captains for the FLL operation) will be incharge of the entire company roster. That will help tremendously.

Im sure there are currently lots of pilots driving trucks for a living happy to take a pay cut to go back to work flying a 787 😬

Don't think they are going to be hiring U.S. pilots. Pay for the U.S. based 787 pilots, all 20 of them, was significantly lower than the pay for the European based pilots, who were almost all unionized. The only pilots who were not unionized were the LGW based pilots who were on their initial 3 year contract. After their contract was renewed, they joined BALPA. All the other Europe based pilots were unionized from the start.
