Flying a Russian Jet-A realistic dream?
Hi all, for as long as I could remember I have always loved Russian airliners and it has always been my dream to one day fly one. I am willing to make alot of personal changes to make that happen, the only thing I'm not willing to do is to work for a unsafe company because no dream is worth that. I still have a while before I would be qualified but I wondering if that kind of job is still possible or should I resign to sitting in the back when I go to Russia again.

In order to work for any Russian airline as a crewmember you have to be a citizen of the Russian Federation. Also proficiency in Russian is a must.
There are only a few businessjet pilots from the West - the owners get away with that somehow.
Maintenance and training standards are lower that in the US, but not by too much. There are nations in worse air safety situations.
PM me if you need more info.

If business aviation with Western build airplanes is a choice for anyone here (as opposed to Russian airlines with Soviet/Russian build equipment) I'd suggest to go to flightinfo.com and do a search for "expat pilots in Russia". There was a thread with replies by an American corporate pilot, who flies for a Russian owner. He's been living in Moscow for 2 years now.
If you are young and fascinated with Russia that thread will help you to get a real picture
