Default JAL anyone?

Hey, anyone out there work for JAL? If so, can you give me the 'low down' on QOL, general ops as far as commuting for work, pay, etc, etc...?

My neighbor is in TYO for sim training w/JalWays and tells me that things have improved immensely from the early 90's when he started. He's a -400 Skipper in training. The foreign 747 classic flight engineers will be put out to pasture the end of May 2008 as I understand it. The pilot types will transition to the -400.
I agree though, the Astronaut physical was a bit much when I went through there in the late 80's.
I spent 18 years @Jal as a PFE before finally getting laid-off in 2006. Not a bad Gig, good money, vacation etc. JalWays is a subsidiary of JAL . Not mainline JAL.

If you are looking at working in Japan, take a look at the ANA contracts. I believe the pay is better and the working environment is much better. We have had guys come over here from the "red team" and say that it is like night and day.

Commuting over on the ANA contracts is you either get $2000 cash and buy your own ticket / use ZEDs or they company buys you a confirmed business class seat.

We have had more than a few JALways guys come over to our side, and all have said they are much happier here.

There are no JAL jobs for non-japanese crew members...

However Jalways will probably start hiring -400 fo's sometimes next year for there Hawaii base flying.

J-Air is hiring direct entry captain on the ERJ-170 and JEX is hiring on the B737.

Check out http://japanpilots.19.forumer.com/ for some links to contract companies.

Expect training to last 5-9 months depending on contract and aircraft.
