For the Emirates roadshow in Denver- does anyone know where it will take place? The website says the Hyatt Regency, I called and they said they do not show Emirates Airlines at any Hyatt in Denver. So I called the Denver Airport Marriott, which is what originally was listed on this forum. The Marriott knew nothing of Emirates... :confused:

Anyone happen to know where they will be here in Denver, tomorrow May 20th?

The EK website posted a change....

They were at the downtown Hyatt. There was some misinformation by the DTC Hyatt. The EK website was correct though.

given the state of the industry right now and all the qualified guys on the street, i dont think Emirates will have a hard time filling its shortage... what do you think?

Most Americans are hesitant to move overseas. It's a different culture from a lot of the rest of the world, where working in other countries is pretty routine.

but you dont think people will go there for a few years to wait out the dire situation here in the US?

Maybe but that is where some of the problem comes in. Between training bonds, retirement fund vesting and the expense of moving overseas and setting up house, it's not necessarily that easy to just up and leave, especially if you have resigned from a job in the U.S. and are looking at returning at first year pay. (Emirates does require you to resign from your current employer)

All of these plus the no commuting policy makes it difficult (not impossible) to leave here, especially for pilots with families.

The other big consideration for someone leaving the US for EK is that one would be going from a completely seniority-based long-term system, to somewhat of a short-term system. For most pilots going there, let's say 10 years.

When you're ready to come back, you don't get to come back to a left seat, even though you might have 7 years of widebody captain experience... you'll start out at the bottom of the seniority list... again.

If you want to stay in Dubai long term, or want to go from there to contract flying (say Vietnam Airlines, or others hiring into the left seat), then it's a different story.

I guess what I mean is that if you have the qualifications to make it to EK, you probably have the qualifications for a major in the US (or you are already at a US major). Going over there for the widebody experience and the left seat, will not improve your situation much in the US at all. If you go there, it should be for the long-term career, otherwise not worth it. IMO
