Default Aer Arann

Anyone know what Aer Arann is currently paying new FO's? Do they hire from the US? Any other info on them would be much appreciated? Their site doesn't have a whole lot of information on the job. QOL?

You may want to make a queery on PPRUNE.COM. And yes... they do hire US citizens with a type rating on the ATR.

Thanks for the info.

They ask on the app if you'd be willing to pay for your type rating, anyone have any idea what the cost of that would be? Could i get that done in the states, or would that have to be done over there?

Here or over there; however it's about 25,000 Euros for the TR. I highly suggest you stay away from airlines that make you get a SSTR (Self-sponsored) because while short term it could be a solid investment; long term it could be a bad descision. I'm one of thoes oldies who believe after all the work and money and time I put into getting a 1,000 hours CFI as well as all thoes raitings beforehand the airline should pay for my type.

Again I can't and this post shouldn't influence your descision but be careful with SSTR airlines.

I mean if WN a LCC here can pay for my type; why can't Ryanair (A world class money bag) do that over there.

By WN, do you mean SouthWest paying for your type? If so, you might want to reword it or check your facts.

SouthWest requires their pilots to have a 737 type rating before showing up. You can interview without it, but can't get hired without it.

I believe it is somewhere around 25,000 euros (US$40,000!!!) and you would get your type rating after you are hired from the company that they use. You probably already know this but you need JAA license and if you don't have time on aircraft over 12,500 you will need to complete MCC course which also costs a few thousand. You obviously also have to have an EU passport. Ireland is also getting ready to experience it's first recession since 1982 so keep that in mind before you invest alot of money. It also costs a lot to live in Ireland. There is a high cost of living over there, housing, food, cars, gas, auto insurance (especially if you are under 25 and male) is also extremely expensive.

My cousins friend just paid 29,000 Euros for the type rating so he could work for Ryanair. I don't know that is a lot of money and especially if you are an American with the exchange rate of the dollar now. Are you sure that Aer Arann is hurting for first officers? I know they are always looking for direct entry captains but there is lots of low timers in EU that are looking for any job they can get normally. Also Aer Arann will only help you with the conversion of FAA - JAA if you have lots of PIC time in the ATR (you probably know already)

My info is all second hand so take it for what its worth

Yep, starting to sound like more of a pain in the butt than it would be worth!
