Any U.S. Legacy Guys out there?
Guys & Gals:
I was curious to poll the forum-crowd and see if any US Legacy folks have jumped ship and gone foreign. If so:
1. Which airline did you go to?
2. Better, worse, or what you expected?
3. Would you do it again?
4. Would you ever go back to a Legacy? (assuming you did this on furlough)

Well I guess I'll be the first to respond here. Furloughed (voluntary) UAL guppy guy, heading most likely to Saudi Arabia to fly for NAS. That is if they ever get my visa paperwork completed. Not likely to go back to UAL, maybe bank enough cash to finally go back to school and become a dentist or something.

You'll find numerous legacy guys at Emirates, Cathay, and the Japanese contracts.
In my case:
1 = Emirates
2 = Far Better ( legacy was USAirways )
3 = In a heartbeat
4 = Highly doubtful, don't have a seniority number anymore.
At last count there are at least 22 former USAirways (east) pilots at Emirates. Only about 4 or 5 were furloughed, the rest retired early and came or just quit and came ( well, some came on leaves that have since expired ). There are around 10 each from AA, NWA, and DAL. That's split equally between furloughed/leave types and early retirees. Only a couple from UAL, CAL, and Alaskan.
It's always going to be an individual choice though. Foreign jobs work well for some, but others just don't like the separation from the USA or the lifestyle/culture in a foreign country.

Korean Airlines, through numerous contracting agenies, is another alternative. They provide expats with R/T confirmed business class tickets. The roster is 11 hard days off per month and 19 days in Korea. They house you at the Inchon Hyatt and proivde decent per diem. You can get additional information from Rishworth, PARC, GAP Aviation. You can check out PPRUNE for feed back regarding KAL too.
Good luck and good flying.

How long is the process taking so far and how close to being able to fly for them are you?
Do they want TPIC time for FO applicants, or would time in type as SIC be good enough to be competitive?

I will mirror what TyphoonPilot said.
I retired from AA after 20 years, at the young age of 50 years and 12 days. I had to wait til 50 to get all my benefits.
I was fortunate to be hired by Emirates as a Direct Entry Captain on the 777 and could NOT BE HAPPIER! While Emirates is not perfect, it is far superior to any US carrier in the "enjoy going to fly again" category.
I was stuck on reserve at AA for eternity with no prospects of going anywhere if I stayed (going anywhere to me, means flying widebody captain on some int'l routes). First month or so I thought I'd made a terrible mistake but as time has gone by, I've gotten into the rhythm of flying overseas as an expat and genuinely enjoy it.
I do however, miss the US. I miss my routine and extended family, but I can absolutely tell you, it was the greatest career move I've ever made.
