Question QantasLink??

Does anyone know anything about QantasLink? The Qantus website does not list the requirements. Does one have to hold an Australian work visa, or will they sponsor that? I just met an American Eagle pilot who told me that Qantas was desperate to fill their regional pilot positions.

There's been numerous posts on here but 18 months ago they were desperate and sponsored a bunch of South Africans for their work visas, who were desperate to get out of their homeland.

Now, the change in the industry there, is almost the same as it is here. In other words the economy is about to take a dump and all the airlines have stopped hiring. Most are looking to decrease their flying.

QantasLink Recruitment: Attention
I hope these help.
The latest bids had command slots on the 200/300 with only twelve months service. A command on the 400 takes a little longer. We have not seen any of the "457 visa" people from South Africa yet.
Cheers

I see QantasLink is recruiting for F/O positions. Will they sponsor a Permanent Resident Visa for a qualified pilot? I am not exactly clear on what the following ratings translate to for the US/FAA:

Endorsements/Qualifications

Hold or have held endorsements for NDB, VOR, ILS, LLZ and DGA on an Australian Civil Instrument Rating or New Zealand equivalent.

Hold a Basic GPS Qualification (CAO 40.2.1, Appendix IV, Section 1 - log book stamp required).

Multi Engine Instrument Rating valid for at least 3 months upon commencement of employment.

- Is this just a Commercial/ Instrument Rating with a ME add-on by FAA Standards?

Also, what is starting pay typically? How does one get an AUS passport?

Thanks!

You will not get a passport unless your parents are Australian or you marry a AUS citizen. Also plan on spending about 10k to convert your license. They will not take FAA. Australian market is one of the hardest market to find a job. Thousands of Australian leave to find jobs themselves. The only reason Jetlink and REX need pilots is because they are the Mesa of down under. You couldn't even aford a rent a room on their salary. Keep looking.

Do a search for MayFly135. Former USAF pilot, married to an Aussie. He did the FAA to Aussie ATPL conversion and detailed the costs and time for his conversion. As I recall it was very expensive and time consuming. Also getting his right to work was extremely difficult as well. Seems the Aussies make it very difficult even for spouses of Aussies. I believe in the end he was commuting to India(?) for work.

Marry a Kiwi like I did. Still not easy but much better then the Aussie system.

Cheers,

Still ****ed off over the Botany Bay thing.

Sorry if I offended the Aussies... but just couldn't resist. NZ. AUS. would probably be the adventure of a life time. If I were a bit younger, and married to a rich woman, I would give it a shot.
