TAP Air Portugal
#1
Hi everyone, I'm a dual citizen (USA and Portugal) and also flying for regional here in the US. Does anyone know what the processes is to try to get hired overseas? Also does anyone know if TAP is hiring, or what the process is like? What about QOL? Thanks so much.

If you have or can obtain a Portuguese passport... then no problem for getting a job there, or anywhere within the EU for that matter. However, you should contact TAP directly to see first if they are hiring. Second, if TAP is hiring, if you may be able to short cut some requirements temporarily and work with a Portuguese validation, provided the permit it.
A validation allows you to operate an aircraft of a foreign registry specific to a type within a company fleet, or a specific aircraft serial/registration number applicable to the country you desire to fly. You will be required to take a medical in Portugal. You may also have to take an air law and air regulation exam too. In any case, you will be required to continue to satisfy the aviation and medical requirements of country where your certificate was issued. Thus you will still be required to maintain your FAA Medical. With that being said, if TAP is hiring and allows you to work on a validation, you will be required to take a medical in Portugal.
For more complete information, you should contact the Portuguese DGCA to see what their requirements are to obtain a validation and or an unrestricted airman certificate. They will provide you with a list of approved medical examiners who can issue an initial medical.
If TAP does not allow the validation route, then you will need to obtain a full JAR/EASA certificate which involves 14 written exams along with the medical.
In any event good luck.

You must go through our notirification process, if you do not have our certificates, it means that you must contact the National Aviation Authority so that they can accept your American qualification and then if needed then you must make some additional our European qualifications. It is partially because of the crisis as well. Previously one could fly with American qualification or canadian at the base of the contractor only, now needs additional new qualifications. Means again at school. I will get you some contacts to the national aviation in couple of days I am straight after a huge funeral after a plane crash and please contact them, and they must notrify your license plus suggesting european as well. I have european qualification, flying occasionally. I thought like I will join the airlines in Asia, but the ones I like they are not hiring womens, and the others I do not like.Melu

If you have jet command, I believe it to be over 60 ton, totaling over 500 hours, then you can do the transition written. As much as I hate to say it, perhaps wading through the quagmire of BS that is pprune would be a reasonable idea here. Or you could just try the JAR web site.
Melu, your english is getting better mate, I'm understanding most of what you say now. But, you still appear to be heading off on those tangents. Mind you, who am I to point fingers when we're talking about rants and digressions. . .
Happy flying.
