I don't work for China Airlines but I was hanging out in Taipei the other day with a CAL 747-Captain. Real nice guy, Canadian. If you need a job, its some place to go. Personally, it sounded like too much work for me. He said he gets eight days off in a row each month plus additional "days off" in the overnight cities. He flew mostly on the cargo side, SFO and LAX. He said there is a large divide between the Chinese pilots and the expats; i.e. They have two manuals for everything, an ops manual in Chinese and one in English and the one in English never gets updated. He said that getting contract renewals are almost automatic unless you've been a real thorn in their side. I've spent a lot of time in Taipei and its not terrible, but its not a place I would really desire to live. Cathay and Hong Kong would be nicer. Not first hand but I hope this helps a little.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Anyone has any info about the payscale? How long is the contract/bond?

How about upgrades for ex-pats? Any bases outside TPE?

Thanks,
sunnfun

If you are current in the 767 Viva Macau is looking for pilots. Even if you're not you might give them a try.

As of last week when I spoke to them, the were emphatic that you have to have flown the aircraft within the preceeding 24 months. They don't want to do a long course for new hires yet until they run out of candidates who meet the recency of experience for training purposes.
