5 billion hours of studying morris code and memorizing the frequency ranges of every type of navaid and stuff like that and zero hours being an unworthy American. Flight time hours optional.

1.) Not be a colonial.
2.) Heavy jet or military experience.
3.) Win the lottery and have them pay for your training.

This is where the Future Pilot Programme really comes into its own. We have structured the programme so that APL will sponsor your flight training, jet orientation course and type rating. Obviously this represents a significant investment by APL and you will therefore be required to deposit a security bond of £84,000 with them. Because this is a sponsored scheme, this entire £84,000 security bond will be repaid to you, tax-free, if you successfully complete all training, and join British Airways as a first officer. The security bond is repaid in equal monthly instalments over your first seven years of employment, all in addition to your remuneration package.
PFT is back and bigger than ever!!! For you internationally challenged folks, that's about $135K you get to shell out. I can fully see the majors jumping on this idea if they needed too in the future.

Um, does this even matter to American pilots? I don't think an ATP counts over there. Am I wrong? Don't you have to have JAA ratings?

Its a cycles requirement, x-amount of cycles in y type of aircraft, ie turboprop, or jet determines weather you will be a wide-body FO, narrow body FO, or a cruise officer. Yes, the JAR ATPL's (yes plaural) are required along with the kicker, the right to live and work in the UK. Good luck with that one! Would be pretty sweet to check on to New York tracon with a 'speedbird' call sign!

Cheers!

"Speedbird" only sounds right when spoken with a crisp British accent.
