How about no pay during training...

The below is from PPrune.

Quote:
The first thing anyone interested in this job needs to know is that you won’t get paid. The new deal is that you don’t get paid until you finish your ‘Training’. A process that used to take anything between two and four weeks, now takes anything up to three months!! You see the longer they can keep you in the training program, the longer they don’t have to pay you.

I think that's a good enough reason to boycott Ethiopian... don't you?

The recruiters are just as despicable as the Airline for not informing applicants of the no pay until training is complete issue.

Some do tell you; some don't. Those that don't also sometimes overstate the pay. The base is $6500.00. Everything else is "allowances". I'm told there is plenty of overtime, though.

During training do they provide accommodation as well as allowances?
Normally, how long is the training? As far as I can understand, the training has nothing to do with the experience of the candidate.
Every body gets initial training.Do they have their own sims or have to go to a TRTO somewhere else?

The T &C's offered by Ethiopian are extremely substandard, there are E 175 contracts now that are worth almost three times what they are paying to fly a 777, that tells me that the guys going for it are the ones that are being turned down from any other decent contract out there, that alone is reason enough to think twice about applying there.

Really, that's a graceless thing to say. I'm not eligible for a lot of those "decent" contracts due to age and medical requirements. There are a lot of really fine people in the same boat, if I may say so myself. Whatever problems Ethiopian may have, it's probably better than sitting at home (no, I don't work there, but that's another story).

Give it time; if you're lucky you'll soon be facing the same problems. Age is a sure cure for arrogance, although it takes longer for some than others.

I do agree that some are those older chaps not ready to hang up the goggles. However with the age requirement in China and strict Air Force Medical now required in India the pickens are rather slim.

However we as professionals, who've been complaining, myself included, about the lowering the bar, must respect the fine line that must be drawn when it comes to one's self respect when considering such abysmal T & Cs.

Sorry you took offense to what I said rorothead, and I am sorry that you didn't plan correctly for your golden age, my position remains the same, the T&C's are substandard regardless of it being the last choice for some.

Wow, you're a cheap shot artist, too. Well, like the man said, "time wounds all heels".

India, not so much - it's not the doctors so much as the paperwork. If your airline handles you well you'll do alright, as you know. China - yup, although the requirements may not be consistently applied.

Ethiopian actually had some good points, although I'll admit they're not immediately apparent. . The salary hold for training would be a showstopper, however, although the complaints about training being extended are probably exaggerated. Pprune must always be taken with a grain of salt.
