Problem solved for Jet Airways, provided the government and DGCA do not put the poaching scheme to a grinding halt.

Lots of qualified American pilots working at airlines in the ME for the last decade or so that are too old to start at the bottom of an airline back in the US, but this would be a nice alternative to sort of come back home and still hold their seat/pay etc.

This looks like more a permanent position instead of a contract. Is that right?

None of these airlines hire on a permanent basis, its always an initial contract (i.e. 3 years) and after that they reserve the right to cut you loose. They've done that at Air India and SpiceJet already because they wanted all the Americans out. I wouldn't take this job thinking youd be there forever, but then again, the handful of 777 Captains out there who actually qualify for this position AND are seeking employment can write their ticket anywhere in the intl market.

FYI, just for grins I applied for this job (I don't have a 777 type but nearly identical cockpit as a 747-400), and got the TBNT :)

You're right. This is no Korean Air, Air Japan type of contract that one could look forward to renewing. Matter of fact, I cant remember at the moment but there is a cut off date for expats pilots to leave India as per DGCA. Might be a good stint but definitely not a long term option.

It's a 3 year contract ... bunch of retirees from the US Legacy carriers. Good money .. just boring .. JFK-Abu Dhabi .. thats it.

The DGCA deadline for no expats employed by Indian carriers has changed. First, it was 2010, extended to 2013, recently extended to 2016.
