What does it take for a US citizen to work for a Canadian airline (Cargojet in particular). Might as well say up front, that I have no Canadian relatives or relations.

You need two things: TC license and Canadian work permit.
The first one is relatively easy to get, the conversion from FAA to TC is not that difficult, but the work permit is an issue. The company won't apply on your behalf, so you've got to do it yourself, which is almost impossible unless you have a right to live in Canada.
It's pretty much the same as in the States, unless you have a green card, forget about it.
