Hi all,

First off just wanted to say ive been reading through these forums all throughout my flight training and have finally decided to jump on board. Im a recent college grad with low time and am extremely interested in a flying career overseas. Im trying to get my foot in the door as they say and was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for a young, low-time guy like myself to get started. I know its going to be a long road but im looking forward to the journey! -Thanks

 

It has been said here many times, unless you have a fairy god mother, instructing is the most common way to start. It puts you at the airport where you can network, instruct, network. The more visible you are, the better. Did I mention network? Best of luck, you are starting at a good time in the industry.

 

For a Flying career overseas....

The only thing that will matter is Jet Glass 121 time, the heavier, the more automated, the better it looks & the more desirable it makes you..

If you are in a position, go to a flight school full of Chinese/ foreign kids and work your tail off to reach whatever type of ATP mins you qualify for...

Get a job at the regional where you can fly CRJ 700 or higher and start building Jet time.

1000 Jet time will be the minimum but it will make you eligible to apply & may be start opening doors for you in places like Qatar Airways etc..

Also, start familiarizing yourself with what area of the world you want to be in & what the companies in that region are looking for...

That's what I can think of in a nutshell...

May be in 2 - 3 yrs, that will be enough for some decent airlines...

Flying a 208 through the Indonesian jungle. They take guys with a few hundred hours.

 

If you don't mind sharing, who do you work for; who are "they" that hire pilots with a few hundred hours? PM me if need be. I'll have my CPL by the end of next summer and will have a few hundred hours.

 

One of those outfits that I am aware of which flies in Indonesia and takes pilots with relatively fewer hours is Sushi Air (Indonesia).

Be wary that the airline has had quite a few incident/accident with fatalities.

The advice that "bcpilot" gave is the way to go for someone who is from the US that wants to branch out in the expat market.

 

There are missionaries in in South America, Africa, and Asia that will look at low time pilots. I've seen schools in, Indonesia and occasionally Korea and China advertising looking for flight instructors providing better pay than in the US plus housing too.

 

Not trying to be a D... But you don't even have a CPL... Cutting your teeth on a C208 in the Indonesian jungle is a pretty tough place to start.
ATC is not very good at best. Unpredictable weather, rapidly rising terrain and that's just the highlights.
