Probably higher than the US? Come on mate, don't be so naive. American Airlines has, what, 5000 odd flights a day. Yes, there is the odd accident amongst the tens of thousands of flights in the US, but when I look at the possibility of AA or any other mainline carrier having an accident this week I can safely say it won't happen. With the operators in Indonesia, and until very recently Nigeria, I could safely say that there would be an accident in the near future. Aviation in the US, the Western world in general and many areas of Asia is very safe, mainly due to pilots who are properly trained and airlines that further CRM, PDM and safety in general. I think the Indonesians have offered proof enough as to their standard. Keep an eye on what the authorities do and say after each accident. This last one they came out and said they were going to focus on the cause of the fire; how about the plane breaking into pieces at high speed as it exited the end of the runway. Might be a place to start.
All I'm saying is that accidents happen everywhere, and for people to keep their comments in check before they start dismissing airlines of other countries.

Understood, but I don't think my comment was not out of line in the least. There are some countries who are willing to skirt safety to promote aviation (OK you might say the FAA has done that to an extent in the past). Indonesia is a big one. Every time they have a crash they are out in the media blaming something arbitrary, hoping the public will believe it is just a spate of accidents and bad luck. Haveing flown in the area however, I beg to differ. Besides that, at some point you have to start looking at the math. How many flights per day in N America, Europe, India, Japan, and then, how many in Indonesia or Nigeria. Then, how many crashes. The numbers don't lie. They didn't lie with Korean Airlines either, they finally realized it and moved to fix the problems.
I know what your saying and agree to a point as I hate finger pointing at pilots straight off the mark. In the cases of a few regions in which I have flown and experienced first hand the level, or lack of safety, I personally feel that comment is essential to further safety and first hand experience helps when making that comment. Of course debate is essential as well, so please keep it coming.
