Default Flexjet Praetor 500 landing mishap at SSI

Great to hear everyone is safe.

Will be interesting to read the prelim' safety report on this one to understand what went wrong.

So are you going to tell us what happened or just leave everyone wondering?

Attempting to land on runway 4 at SSI, clear wx, calm winds. Total fly by wire failure at 40feet. Aircraft impacted nose low before the threshold, punched both mains through the wings. Right main ripped off and aircraft departed the runway off the right side half way down the runway.

I'm curious how there could possibly be a total fly by wire failure. That would involve multiple redundancies failing simultaneously. We will find out eventually.

If true, that could get an entire fleet grounded.

Winds were gusty most of the afternoon, not calm. Although right down the runway, according to the historical METARs. Also saw a picture from another source that showed the wind socks fully open.

Now we wait for all the arm chair quarterbacks to solve the puzzle before any real investigation unfolds.

Where did you see a fly by wire failure?

Allegedly claimed by PIC of the accident aircraft.

Glad no one was injured and I’ll be awaiting the results of this investigation. I flew the Praetor for a year, and that tail specifically just prior to leaving the fleet. Sad to see any situation that results in a runway excursion and damage to an airframe. A fly-by-wire failure seems unlikely, nor does it turn the Praetor into a lawn dart but I’d rather not speculate on any possible causes.
