fractionals hiring
How are the different companies hiring? How is the competition amongst the applicants? I am interested in NetJets, or anyone in around BOS.

The minimums haven't changed, but you need a little more to get the call. If you're thinking of NetJets, better apply now, once this new TA passes its going to get a bit harder to get in here. The waiting time to get an interview slot is getting longer, so do it now. |
Alpha is hiring; Avantair is hiring. Both currently have a BOS base.

Check out Avantair. They seem to be doing a lot of hiring right now and they look at quality of time not just total. So if you don't have quite the total but some good experience they may give you a shot.

Flexjet is looking to add 100 pilots in 2008 - also adding about 20 aircraft (net) to the 95 or so on property now. Nearest base would be TEB; rule requires that after 90 days employment you need to be within 90 minutes of the base the night before your rotation (generally 4/5/6 on, 4 off) begins. Mgmt indicates that they are looking hard at the NetJets TA and that you should expect adjustments to the salary structure in the spring. Two year upgrade currently - expected to rise to about 3 for new hires.

I just checked at FlexJet and they said there are no positions available at this time for the first officer positions. This was on the Bombadier website.

NetJets is the biggest (around 50% of the business) and will be adding about 60 airframes and hiring anywhere from 350 to 450 next year from what I've heard quoted. We staff aircraft to about 6 pilots per airframe and the new 18 day schedule may lower this by a fraction, but some people will leave and there are always people in the training pipeline to account for so we will have to hire at least 350. If NJA is half the business, my guess is that between the other fractionals and XO Jet (not quite a fractional business model), there will probably be another 350 to 450 pilots hired in the US. That really isn't a huge amount of pilots overall. If the majors keep making money I would have to guess they will be hiring many times more pilots than all the fractionals combined.

I am a FO at Colgan and would really like to get into the 135 world. I love my job but I need more and with 1200 TT, 550 multi (450 of which is turbine), I am not too marketable. I am considering going over to Cape Air to get some more hours because Colgan took our lines and went reserve with them for the next 1.5 months, and the QOL hasn't been great lately. I have a family and need to provide for them and it seems like the fractionals are much more employee friendly however, the 7 day schedule could be tough. Do the fractionals want turbine time? Or would multi time work just as well?
