Default Reduced CS Bases

I was reading on another forum about a rumor that CS is reducing their bases to 8 primary bases. I went to the CS website and found that they are only hiring for the 8 bases. Add the fact that your primary residence must be within 120 miles of your base, no crash pads/drive to your base and put yourself up in a hotel. What a bummer. Any thoughts on this rumor which appears to be true. They are really limiting the potential pilot applicant pool.

Netjets lets u live anywhere in the world as long as you are at your base at your briefed time. And you have a hundred bases to choose from http://gc.kls2.com/cgi-bin/gcmap?PAT...PATH-COLOR=red http://gc.kls2.com/cgi-bin/gc?PATH=A...avy&MAP-STYLE=

Thumbs up Sounds like a good time to turn in your union cards!

Hey Johnson,

Sounds like they need to start a union campaign, if they haven't already. Sometimes, just the threat of the union is enough for a company to reconsider. At my old company, credit cards were cancelled and hotel/rental cars were expected to be paid by the pilot, then reimbursed. When the company found out about the impending union vote, they handed us out fresh credit cards at a pilot meeting with the plea "Please don't vote for a union"... We voted anyway!

I think the IBT is a dead end, especially since the Netjets guys have experienced them and are attempting to decertify. Maybe CS pilots should talk to Netjets ASAP.... Those are the same people that have really made good things happen there, not the IBT. I think that they will be the shiznit of all fractional union representatives. I would like to see them spread to other fractionals.

Just a few thoughts,

JDK

I talked with a CS pilot a couple of days ago and he confirmed that they are only hiring at a few selected bases. He did not say how many though. He also said that they are very strict on the 120 minutes from your base. He just got hired and his residence is 128 minutes from his assigned base. He told me that they are making him move over 8 minutes. He has gotten an apartment 10 minutes closer to his base until he sells his house. That is pretty bad being forced into a house payment, rent and the hassel of having to move over 8 minutes.

At some point you have to ask if a company is worth your time when they care so little about inflicting finacial hardship on you over something as trivial as 8 minutes (prob 8 miles.) Prepare for incoming!

You are correct. The eight bases are listed on the CS hiring webpage. The CS pilots are starting to be concerned that the company will eliminate the other bases all together. We'll see.

You are incorrect that you have to put yourself up in a hotel. If you live two hours away from your base and have an early flight the next morning, they will put you up in a hotel. However, you per diem doesn't start until an hour before your flight.

Chris, what I was referring to was that you are unable to drive to your base, if you live outside the 120 minute drive, and put yourself up in a hotel or a crash pad at your own expense, so that you are at your base ready for a flight assignment. I think it is probably a lot to ask someone to relocate your family to only one of 8 cities that are located in high priced real estate areas if they are more than willing to not relocate and drive and be on base ready for an assignment at their own expense. The fact that your "permanent" residence be located there I feel will severely limit the potential applicant pool and they unfortunately might be missing out on great candidates that just cant justify moving.

Maybe that's the plan - keeps those that aren't serious about CS away? Similar to the way training bond's work - not that they really want the money back but those that aren't serious weed themselves out.
