Paternity Leave

I was offered an interview this morning. During the phone call, I was informed that there isn't really a pool with Frontier and that pending a successful interview, they want their new hires to begin class as soon as possible.

I am considering a possible March interview and was informed that I would most likely begin class in April. However, my wife is pregnant with a due date in June. Does Frontier have any sort of paternity leave policy or leave of absence policy?

Thanks!
AP

Don’t mention it in the interview. If you want to job take it and worry about time off once you’re on property.

Of course there's no pool! They can only get like six suckers to show up at a time. In fact I can almost hear BB and BF laughing everytime people show up for interviews and classes saying, " I can't believe we're still finding pilots desperate enough to show up, heh heh heh. " Good luck with the interview, maybe you'll meet someone in your new hire class that you can share a couch with at some air B&B to save some money during training! You're gonna need it!

100% READY TO STRIKE!

In the past, I have heard that they wouldn’t even interview female pilots if they were pregnant. I would assume this would be the same for male pilots as well if their wife is expecting.

I would wait and interview with a company that values their employees!

This. When I was hired years ago it was a place that valued employees. Sometimes old habits surface. Go somewhere where this wouldn’t be an issue

You have to notify the company months in advance that you’ll be taking FMLA, there is no specific “paternity leave.” And if you take FMLA you’ll find yourself zeroed out on sick days with all your vacation for the current year and following year depleted in the most inefficient means possible. For instance, if you take off 21 days using the FMLA, you lose 21 days of vacation and sick time unless you chose to be unpaid for any portion of that time. Instead most people use 7 days of vacation in two consecutive months and can find themselves with nearly 52 out of 60 days off over two months; all while only using 14 days of vacation. Maybe bang out sick for another couple 4-day trips and you have all 60 days off for 8 sick days and 14 vacation used in total.

In short, FMLA is garbage here, just like every other“perk” we have at Frontier. You always have to play the system at Frontier to get what most airlines give willingly to their pilots. And if you’re junior at Frontier, you’ll get to exercise zero of these contract perks.

Not a great idea to come to Frontier if you’re expecting.

I don’t think he’ll even qualify for FMLA. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe you need to be on property for 12 months.

Unless you’re some rockstar pilot who has soooooo much more to give to this pilot group, mgmt will fire you for even asking.

After reading today’s MEC NC update, don’t come here. Simple as that.

I had my daughter 5 months after my hire date and had mentioned it in the interview. When she was born the current Chief and the old Chief made sure I had the time off I needed; they told me not to worry about it at all. I only dropped two trips but my experience was very positive. Just be yourself in the interview, hope this helps, best of luck in your career :)

My wife was pregnant when I started here back in 2014 and I was offered unpaid leave when she gave birth. I was on a trip when my wife called and the CPO simply told me to go home and they would take care of the pending flights.

That all being said United will give you paid leave even if you are a new hire.

I can appreciate everyone’s positive story about the CP and/or mgmt treating them fairly. But, we are in different times and under very different circumstances. I have had a different and more recent experience with current mgmt. I don’t want to go into details out me but don’t believe everything they tell you. Get it in writing.

The original poster's handle is "armypilot". He asked a simple question. I gave him my personal experience that is less than a year old. The Army does 15 month rotations in some of the more "fun" locations you can deploy to and I have a hell of a lot of respect for that kind of commitment and service. He most likely has a boatload of rotor time, so coming here might help him a lot on his way up. Would you recommend a regional? I don't know his full story, you don't know either. I have apps out but I am treating my time here is if it could be a permanent situation for me if a legacy doesn't beam me up, and for those I fly with who will be here regardless of outcomes. After all that, we're talking about kids here, keep your powder dry for something more relevant.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I'm retired Army with some cash in the bank. I'm ok without a paycheck if the company were to give me the time off. I truly just want to interview as soon as possible and get the next part of my career moving. At the same time, I want to be there for my family.
