Depends on how bad the fumes might have been. Always preferable to go out the jetway as people always get hurt on the slides. If however passengers could not breath you need to get them out ASAP. If it was the Airbus APU fume issue the slides would not be appropriate.

According to someone in the know it was an electrical fire.

If I had to guess, this started from panicked pax who saw smoke and popped the exit nearest them; then after that all bets are off and it's a total yard sale.

Maybe a lithium battery fire ? Phone or PED - that would make sense. If it was APU related I’d just turn off the APU bleed.

Also I watched that evacuation video. Why would aft slide be armed if jet-bridge is still attached ?
