QoL and GJ-isms
Just got invited for an interview with G7 as well as interview with EV and trying to make a fair comparison. I've had people from each tell me I'll hate it there and apply to another airline etc etc, seems the grass is always greener no matter where you are at.
I was told that GoJet does mostly long call reserve and that they only do junior manning twice a year. Just wondering how accurate that has been for everyone's experience and in general if folks could comment on the upsides of GoJet. I've read plenty here about the challenges but also looking for positive inputs and fair comparisons. What do you like or not like, but see changing? Do you feel that management listens to the line and that there is a lot of opportunity going forward with 550's coming in?
Thanks in advance for any advice/commentary.

I’ve been with G7 for about 8 months or so now. I would say, for the most part, you are treated fairly. The company isn’t out to make your life a living hell or anything like that. They also do short call reserve. ( 2 hr call out) You’ll have 4 reserve periods per month and 2 of them will always be converted to short call. You do not have any say in which ones end up being long call vs short call. Biggest advice I can give you is if you live within 2 hours of any regional’s base, that’s the regional you should go to. No matter what regional that may be. I could not imagine having to commute for a regional job. If you live within 2 hours of a base, do it. You can’t beat sitting short call at home vs having to sit in a hotel, or crash pad away from home.

When your monthly schedule is awarded it is all long call reserve. Before that month starts (about a week after the monthly award) they convert 10 of your 20 reserve days to short call reserve at their discretion. It's usually 0300-1500 short call but sometimes you get something later. They like to wake you up at 0300 and tell you they have a trip that starts later in the day. You know, just so they can get it out of the way. You will always have half your month long call and half short call.
You can be junior manned twice a month and up to 6 times per year.
The airline is a mess right now. They are losing all of the Delta flying and closing the 2 Delta bases, RDU and DTW. Delta and Endeavor say they're taking 7 CRJ 900s from Gojet, Gojet says they don't know what's happening to the 7 CRJ 900s they have and they're keeping them. They are parking CRJ 700s as EV takes new E175s and have parked half the 700s so far. These 700s are being converted to CRJ 550s but until they get the type certificate form the FAA the airplanes are just collecting dust.
At the end of the year they should be closing DEN along with DTW and RDU and ramping up operations in GSO and EWR. They're telling pilots things we know not to be true just to try and recruit new pilots and keep the ones they have on property. Over the next six months the bottom half of the seniority list will be making minimum guarantee pay and minimum days off while they try and shuffle everyone around. This time next year the airline will be the same size but in different locations and they're struggling to keep pilots here through that.
They offer several "pathway programs" that get you on with a bigger and better airline. Nobody ever seems to leave for those airlines and if you ask for a list of pilots who have moved through those programs they'll tell you it's classified material.
The good news is you can get on the line quickly and be guaranteed GSO or EWR as a base. They are also throwing cash at people to get them in the door and to stay a year with no strings. If you can make it 6 months, here's some cash. If you can make it 1 year, here's some more cash.
If you're looking for a quick class date and a quick buck, this is your place. If you want a well run operation with an opportunity for a personal life that won't be shifting around the country, stay away.
