What's on your wrist?
Hey guys/gals... as the title implies, what's everyone wearing for a watch these days?
What are the features that you use on a daily basis, or would like to see on a timepiece marketed towards aviators? GMT, date, chrono, etc...... What are the features you think are overkill? |
I wear a luminox black ops, it is light, comfortable, and easy to read day and night
|
An iPhone.
|
$10 Casio.

Got mine four years ago; price was about half what it says here.
Citizen Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T JY0000-53E Atomic Timekeeping |
I went with the biggest dorkiest pilot watch I could find. Citizen Blue Angels. However, since there's so much metal in the tiny flight deck I'm in and don't want it scratched, I now wear a $20 Armitron (which keeps better time than any Rolex.)

I wear a Garmin D2 Pilot.
http://cdn.gearpatrol.com/wp-content...ear-Patrol.jpg If you’re into piloting and like your watches as cool as possible, look no further than Garmin’s D2 Pilot watch ($449). Even in the crowded field of complex digital flight watches, the D2 stands out with a truly amazing set of features. Sporting an accurate WAAS GPS receiver along with an altimeter and compass, the 49mm-wide D2 can manage direct-to and nearest routing via an on-board worldwide airport database. Speed, waypoint, flight plans, ETA, active mapping, bearing and glide ratio are all available, along with a view of up to six time zones. It can even communicate with a number of external Garmin devices to keep additional flight information ready at a glance. It’s a remarkable, pure flight tool. |
No. A watch that has WAAS is not cool.

That is why I carry a bubble sextant.
Plus a set of car keys, a brick, a duck, a cat, and a dog... And a backup recreational vehicle level. Probably taped to his watch. |

Cheapest watch with a black band I could find at Wally World. Digital because, well, I can't be bothered.

I had the Casio pathfinder. Loved it, especially the solar charging and auto time synch but found the buttons too difficult to locate / work with and the display didn't have option to present two different times zones at the same time. Went with the Apple Watch. I now have 3 time zones on the main face (home, Zulu, current), love having a silent vibrating alarm clock on my wrist and find I use the timer for flight deck reminders way more than I thought I would. Cons are it was a little pricey, it has to be charged every 1-2 days, and I find I just don't use most of its features.

Timex Ironman, works great, lasts a really long time.

Is it true the 737 guys have sundials?

Casio pathfinder circa 1999. Second battery. It stays in my bag in case we crash land on an Island without electricity and I need to know when the fish are biting. I'll need to borrow that sextant as it needs a rough present position to compute tides.

Watch
G shock atomic, solar power. Not to big. Easy to change time zones. Always on time.

Get a "Chuck Norris" watch. Whatever it reads immediately becomes the correct time. :D

Twenty years ago, I picked up the venerable GMT Master II. Bought at discount through the AAFES program. U.S. Postman had to collect customs duty for the package from Geneva. Still wearing it daily, although I usually have a black plastic 'throw-away' in the flight bag for situational use. Looking at the GMT reminds me of crossing the big blue at 280 kts true. " Hey Nav, are you gonna eat that Mallo Pie?" |

Breitling Aerospace Evo.
I use the bezel and two time zones daily. I love the watch. Any tachymeter or E6B functions are overkill. Two - three time zones, a chronometer, and hacking capabilities are about all I care about for functionality. |

Seiko World Timer, analog titanium model H028-0000. Replaced my digital Seiko World Timer which I bought in 1988 in Frankfurt. That was a great world watch for a pilot. Alas, it has passed on.
The current watch is good, digital city, date and time behind the hands. Hands adjust to set time, forward or will move backward if time zone requested would be shorter reaching from counter clockwise. I don't think Seiko makes it anymore. Paid $180 in HKG about 15 years ago. When it dies, I think I'm heading to an I watch. |
I wear GMT-Master II. It's a little expensive, but I wear it at work, casually, and when dressed up. Everyone who can afford it should buy one eventually. Also have a Sea-Dweller, but it's a little too bulky for work.

Company issued iWatch.....because the Part 91 leash has to be taught and the chain must be jerked.
Otherwise a Breitling Super Ocean |

If you're going to spend that much, might as well go all the way and get a Rolex. Rolex is much more respected than Omega. Omega's are nice watches, but the Rolex is on a different level. Of course tbere are watches out there that put Rolex's to shame, I just can't afford them.
To the poster with the Speedy, great watch. It's on my list of five that I'd like to have. |
Glycine Airman 24 or Ball Hydrocarbon Engineer Aerogmt (tritium illumination for index as well as the rotating bezel...)Also the Alpina Alpiner4 GMT is a neat watch with the jumping hour feature for local time vs the GMT hand, as well as a solar compass. I'm an automatic/mechanical type of guy. My watch batteries in my quartz watches have a habit of dying every time I'm somewhere I can't get a battery!

Maybe I'm not into watches and would rather buy a jet ski. Maybe I'd rather buy a Bremont 247 Ti-GMT, or a Panerai Luminor GMT, or an IWC Portuguese, or an original Tag Carrera... Maybe I don't want to look like every other pilot with a GMT Master. |
