I hate facial hair. I don't support changing the rule. We are airline pilots, not sea Captains.

Ultimately it is easier to say "no" than to fight that fight.

Yeah, lazy management.

It's real simple, make the rules exactly how they want them. "A well groomed beard or goatee or mustache, with no hair to exceed 1/2" in length, or be of extreme or abnormal styles, etc"

But people are lazy and don't want to deal with it.

Then don't grow any. :)

There really is no rational reason NOT to allow facial hair as long as it is well kept and groomed.

Write up a Beard resolution and post it here. I'm sure it could get it through multiple Councils.

But it's not so much a safety issue as it is an appearance issue. The courts have given companies wide latitude in establishing their dress codes, so the company holds all the cards. They have to be convinced that changing the dress code would be beneficial to them. Tough sell but can't hurt to try.

You are right outside of the US they DO allow it - go work there.

And there it is!

I saw a United pilot the other day with a soul patch. Classy.

I really do not want to see pilots at any US airlines in beards.

I just searched 'emirates pilot'. Nothing to do with beards.

ALPA politics aside -

Well, there you go, "as rigidly as the use of uniforms." Based on what's being worn as a uniform at UAL, just grow one as apparently no one cares.
