Fearful Flyer ALLEGIANT
Hi,
I'm not a pilot or in the airline industry at all. I am a former microbiologist turned stay at home mom. I have traveled extensively but in recent years developed a HUGE fear of flying. I feel bad poating this in a forum for pilots but I really think that feedback from professionals will help me a lot. I don't want my fears of flying to stop me from traveling with my kids. I want them to experience what I did.
Anyway, I fly Allegiant often because it's local and usually cheaper. I am flying from ABE to Myrtle Beach next week (I've done this flight many times). I googled Allegiant yesterday, stupidly, and articles from the last few years about them are FREAKING me out. I've never had a problem on their flights, once we had bad turbulence, but now I'm dreading this trip.
Any Allegiant pilots willing to alleviate my fears? Thank you so so much ♡

MBird,
You are much more at risk of dying enroute to the ABE airport in your car than on your flight.
Just take a BIG deep breath, let go and allow the crew to take care of you. go enjoy your time away with the kids.

While allegiant doesn't have the best reputation among US carriers, by virtue of being certified as a US carrier it is still one of the safest airlines in the world and is going to be orders of magnitude safer than driving to your destination.
Also probably safer than some US regional airlines.

Not an Allegiant pilot...
They certainly do have their problems as the Google machine has told you. These are well known amongst pilots. Their management and maintenance leave something to be desired.
That said, if you're on an Airbus, you are still on one of the safest aircraft in the world. The pilots at Allegiant will do everything they can to ensure the safest flight possible, and that includes refusing to fly an unsafe airplane. I wouldn't be overly concerned.
That said, from now on maybe you'll choose differently.

I wouldn't worry. Even though Allegiant is the airline most go to, to make fun of their Maintenance department. They still have standards to uphold and i believe most of their planes are Airbuses now.
TLDR: any plane that involves carrying passengers in the USA for an airline will be safer than driving to the airport like they said above.

Afraid and informed
Hi all, I fly Allegiant often, ABE to Myrtle Beach. I've developed a big fear of flying, heightened by the few bad articles about Allegiant in recent years
I know the media can be pretty stupid and dramatic but can't shake my nervousness. Flying with my babies this week and figured I'd talk to the experts. I posted in "safety" before and did get some helpful feedback. Figured I'd try again with y'all and see if you can ease my safety concerns. Thanks a million.
