Default All Nippon Plane Lands in Japan After Failing First Attempt

By Chris Cooper

March 13 (Bloomberg) -- A plane from All Nippon Airways Co., whose front landing gear didn't lower, safely landed at Kochi airport in Japan after failing its first attempt.

The plane has 56 passengers on board, two pilots and two flight crew, according to spokesman Fumiyoshi Fukumori.

The flight took off at 8:10 a.m. from Osaka airport and was supposed to land at Kochi airport at 8:55 a.m., according to state-run NHK television.

The plane is a Bombardier Inc.-made DHC8-400 capable of seating 74 passengers, the spokesman said. The plane landed on its nose after the front landing gear did not come down. The plane landed at 10:54 a.m., NHK said.

Shares of All Nippon rose 6 yen, or 1.3 percent, to 478 yen as of 10:56 a.m. on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Ok, I found a link to a video of the landing. Not the best footage, but footage none the less. From a Japanese news network. http://www.news24.jp/79246.html
Click where it says 300k next to the windows media logo for a short clip taken live for the report.

Also, I'm still confused about the first attempt. One article I read said that they aborted the first attempt and came back around and landed safely. Another article said that the captain elected to do a touch-&-go to see if the impact would somehow let the nose gear come loose before coming around to land again. Either way, it's great that it ended with no casualties.
