I dont' understand the whole texting thing. Just call!!!!!!!!! So that's my answer. I did have internet on it for awhile, but stopped it because all I did was send a few pic's I took to my own e-mail.

However there are times when it might be convenient to send a text message with a brief and specific snippet of information - Such as:
- Your overnight letter was delivered.
- The flight is late.
- My meeting is canceled (I guess you could use it for good news too).
Text back services are great when you need specific info. One SMS service I've been using quite a bit is Google SMS. It takes a little practice to learn the basic commands, but in the last week it's helped me find food, check weather, and win a bar bet based on trivia.

Does email count as texting? I use a Blackberry 7100i for all of the above. Granted it is incredibly slow for surfing the web but it is handy for getting the headlines and scores.
Nice to have my email and calendar with me as well as phone and Nextel direct connect.

There is no question talking to someone on the phone is much better, but there are many times when I just have a little, well, factoid that is not time sensitive, so I text instead. Usually, I or the recipient is engaged in something that precludes us from answering the phone, and texting (you know, that's not a proper English word? ) is best solution. One pet peeve about text messages is the usage of shortcuts. Do NOT ever ask me "How R U?" I won't answer.

I feel the same way, I don't understand the benefit of texting person to person as a form of dialog.
