I just wanted to chime here and point out:
It is ALWAYS much harder on the parent traveling with the kid than it is on ANYONE else.
MTOTD should always go to the ass that rolls their eyes in the direction of said parent, makes an over the top 'sigh' in earshot of said parent, and especially to the one that says to the parent "can't you shut him up".

Yeah, NO. I have kids and we travelled extensively with them (12 year old has gone to Europe 6 times). It is a choice for parents to travel with their kids, it is not an option for other passengers to not have kids on their flight. If you can't keep your kids quiet travel by car.

Their mother is an airline pilot as well. It's pretty simple: "kids we get to go to disneyland because we get free flights, but if you can't behave we won't go.". It has worked for us for the last decade.
