The people you are talking about are insane, they do not need a logical reason and they will not respond to reasonable negotiation. You are getting ready to discover some truth on your own, first hand. Good luck.

I would suggest you study the history of the ME, the real history and not some revisionist claptrap.

Since we are adults, let's keep in mind that the goal is not regeneration of a pitiful former feifdom. The actual goal is to keep oil flowing and the lid on lunatic muslims intent on setting the world back 500 years. The impact of an ever expanding and uncontrolled jihad across the ME assisted by nuclear weapons can't be allowed. I will state right now that a military presence in the ME is going to be needed for a very long time. Once their oil runs out they will get less attention than last week's paper.

I can't wait. Today they're riding around in custom BBJ's (or larger :eek: ), in a few years they'll be back on great-grandad's camel.

The Royal families have invested over a long period of time, even after the oil runs out there they will still fare well. The remainder of the defacto welfare states will be in for much tougher times.
How long will it take? Fifty or one hundred years? Nobody really knows the answer and the Saudis aren't allowing audits or telling tales.

That is the truth. There are consequences to our policy's. It does not justify the attack but is does explain it.

This thread kinda ties into some books I have just finished reading. Sleeping with the Devil and See No Evil both written by Robert Baer an ex-CIA agent. Sleeping with the devil goes into great detail about the corruption Saudi Oil. See no Evil is more about his career and how the CIA turned away from their old school tactics, and is the inspiration for the movie Syriana. Both are very interesting reads, check them out if you have time.

Of course one may always get the unvarnished truth from a blog site called "antiwar". If it makes you feel better to paint the 9/11 terrorists as misunderstood guys driven over the top by US aggression in Saudi Arabia drive on. History does not bear this out, and if you doubt ME aggression can start being a threat to us you may want to review GW I. Talk to a few Kuwaitis and Saudis who were there and ask them how they felt about ME brotherhood and the Great Satan pulling their fat out of the fire.
Iran's monthly rant about burning the US and it's allies down in a nuclear holocaust is a balanced reaction to what? My guess is that our next moves are going to be much more violent and much less concerned with rebuilding or assistance.

Not US aggression in SA but coddling the royal family and occupying air bases there. Obviously there is much more to all the stories over there. Suffice to say, GW is not the president he said he would be when running for election. He is basically the opposite of traditional republican polices.

This may come as a shock, but those bases and US troops were there at the request of the Saudi government. So perhaps it was Saudi policy that angered the terrorists, or Saudi and US policy or perhaps they are just liking their jihad bag?

The policy of the US in the ME has remained unchanged for decades, blaming it on one person or party is incorrect. The bottom line is everybody plays nice and the oil keeps flowing or people are going to get hurt. Beyond that, you will have a hard time finding people who care about politics in the ME or the US.
