Thumbs down TSA to address "non-binary" pat downs

"Is airport security technology inherently gender-biased? The Transportation Security Administration admits the screening process is more challenging for transgender and nonbinary folks than cisgender travelers. Now, the TSA is spending millions to set up nonbinary screening systems. The technology currently being used by TSA takes a very binary approach to security screenings. As a result, noncisgender individuals are likely to be brought aside for often embarrassing physical pat-downs. A local lawmaker, with firsthand experience, is calling for change.

“I went through the scanner, the alert went off that the TSA agents needed to check my groin area,” said Rep. Taylor Small, P/D-Winooski, the first transgender legislator in Vermont.

Small says every time she flies out of the Burlington International Airport, she’s pulled aside for a physical pat-down. Most recently, in November as she left for D.C."

Gender silliness aside, I can see how the wide variation in human groin anatomy makes it hard to determine what’s flesh and what might be contraband

Christ, what the hell happened to this world when this is the kind of $__t they’re literally spending millions on.

Whooooo caressssss?

Are you non-binary?
Are you TSA?

Why are you so concerned about how non binary people are being patted down? Does this really bother you? You might ask yourself these questions.

Live and let live. And mind your own business. These are old fashioned principles of living in a free and open society.

Is a tax payer not allowed to be concerned about how his/her tax dollars are spent?

I'm not a gender warrior ... but I see the issue here. People show up and you evaluate their scan based on expecting penis/scrotum or not. Having a plan for "um, does that person have junk" is quite reasonable.

You still think the govt is financed by "tax dollars"? That's hilarious.

With impending death, and the fact that no one will remember any of this in 1000 years…..

Why does it matter?
I can think of one main reason, people are fearful that we will slide deeper and deeper into a socially neutral state? Government control? I can emphatically understand this fear, though I don’t agree with it.

I’m curious

(Disclaimer-try and discuss, not feel)

The reason why I like hanger talk is that we can try and have conversations here that otherwise should not be had on the flight deck. I am an extremists regarding no politics at work. There is very little upside, and the easily attainable downside is a destruction of CRM

If we were really that concerned about how the government spends our taxes, I can think of hundreds (yes, hundreds) of other far more concerning issues!

Besides... 18.6M is pocket change these days!

So let's be a little more honest about what this thread is really about!
