I almost did something like that once. Then I got into reading NOTAMS, highly recommended if you're flying anywhere that's not a major metro hub with 4+ runways reporting severe clear.

Once I avoided late night dispatch to an uncontrolled airport that was actually closed for runway work after the scheduled ETA. No, the GED non-dispatch certificated dispatcher didn't catch it.

Another time queried dispatch re. an uncontrolled destination with a broken ASOS (some info such as local winds is REQUIRED for 121 ops). Dispatch said the station could provide a weather read on ops freq. Well arrived over the valley, asked approach for delay vectors to get the wx, called ops, and they said their certified weather dude wasn't working that night. Back to the hub we went, since I had already gone on record about the issue. It was actually a field prone to large and variable winds, so it might have mattered.
Amen
Empty leg repo after a charter drop off. Jolt of adrenaline, pull & pray. 2 up front, 2 in the back. Could just as easily smoked us all. G’damn notam.
